about

The song is about the internal conflict that arose during a strange period of my life, when I realised I wasn’t there for myself whilst looking for external reassurance in inevitably toxic relationships. The imagery I painted in my head was of a broken girl standing by a lover’s apartment door, about to leave and never come back. She would then go on to start a monologue about why she couldn’t be with him anymore but it turns out she’s having realisations about herself and how she is the one who put herself in that position in the first place. After the breakthrough she had right there and then, she gives the lover a chance to speak before she leaves - that’s when the song finishes. It’s up to the listener to decide what his response is.

lyrics

Say It

Give me just a reason why
I should stay tonight
and I might think
of all the times I
considered
telling you the truth
there’s only one person
I need
and it’s not you

And I’m tired of not being there
to watch myself as I go
Now looking back at all the times
I lost all my control
how can I find
if I don’t know what I’m looking for

I haunted my own ghosts

This gravity’s not enough
to hold me onto the surface
I'm floating around,
stuck in the ground,
Spinning in a straight line
of blank imagination
please try to understand me
even when I don’t make sense

And all the nights I spent with you
just wasting all I had
And I kept telling myself
It cannot be that bad

I refused to see the signs
cause I knew you were so bad, sad, mad
with what we had
you know I’m glad we met

Do we have to wait
til after midnight
to say the things we wanna say?

Not under the influence
We’ll find another way
I won’t be here for long
So just say what you have to say
